A Festival with First-Class Standards

'Tage Alter Musik' in Regensburg Breaks Attendance Records

The 15th international "Tage Alter Musik" took place this Whit weekend in Regensburg's historic halls and churches, and as has become tradition, the organizers of "Pro Musica Antiqua" again managed to assemble numerous stars of the genre for this festival which is recognized worldwide. Altogether, the "Tage Alter Musik," which were extended to Whit Monday, increasing the number of concerts from 10 to 13, were absolutely first class. More than 6,500 music lovers attended the concerts -- a new record.

At the evening concert at 10:45 P.M. of the opening day [5/21/99], held in the well-filled Dominikanerkirche of Regensburg, one could listen to musical art that went back even further in history. The New York vocal ensemble Lionheart transported the audience to the early polyphony of the Parisian Cathedral of Notre Dame around 1200. The six-man ensemble thrilled the listener with clear intonation and solemn respect for the sacred songs. Splendidly performed melismas were combined with great sensitivity for the one-to-three voice pieces..."
